We celebrate countless holidays, for the women, for our country, freedom, blue-collar workers, justice, religion and so on… But what about the man (but what about the men?)The father, the patriarch? Actually fathers have a day in the calendar, the problem is nobody knows when it is, or what we celebrate. Father’s Day has long been an overlooked event in the modern society, but this will be rectified this year June 5th 2012.
Ms. Sonora Louise Dodd from Spokane, Washington, invented Father’s Day in 1909, as a reaction to Mother’s Day. The idea was to honor living fathers with red roses, and the ones that had passed on with white. The tradition never really took off and became a part of society and social awareness. This could be blamed on men’s pride or arrogance, but no one knows for sure. Maybe the day has been drowned in the raging war for equality, or maybe it’s just not important, since men already own the limelight across cultures and societies.
Whatever the reason may be, and regardless what the day stands for, the artist group FARS DAG/FATHERS DAY has decided to mark the day as a fiesta in collaboration with the gallery in Classensgade 4. This will be done by opening a magnificent exhibition!
The artists represented at this censored exhibition derive from all parts of the creative world, and will try to fill the void, what father’s day is, in each their own way. The product is a broad variety of media and materials used to challenge our senses, taste and boundaries. The exhibition and the artworks, are custom made for the men who have everything, and a guide to the women that thought they knew everything.
